The Excellent Character of the Mother of
Umar Abu Dajanah Shaheed
Submitted by One of our Visitors !
This is the story of one of those muslim mothers who is worthy of much
praise. She is an example of those mothers who are living on Allah's Earth and
are pure, modest and on the straight path. They want to spread Islam and stop
its enemies and see an end to their evil culture.
This mother had four sons. Whilst feeding her sons milk, this great mother also
instilled in them the love of Jihad. Time passed and the sons grew older. The
mother repeatedly reminded her sons that "Along with my milk I have also
given you the zeal for Jihad and Qitaal. Son, get ready. The battlefield is
beckoning you".
This was Umm Umar Abu Dajanah. She was the descendant of a family of Ulemaa.
They were very modest and honourable and quite a well off family. The pious
mother's son was in his second year of his FA (A-Levels). After reading about
the situation in Kashmir in Majallah Dawah, he became very agitated. He
immediately decided to go for training. He asked his mother to grant him
permission to go. The mother, who was herself aggrieved and disturbed by what
was happening, did not refuse him. After completing 21 days of training, he sent
his mother a letter saying if she would grant him permission again, to stay on
and do another 3 months of training, then he would come home to visit, otherwise
he would just stay on and complete his Daura Khaassa, (before coming home). The
mother offered two Raka'at of Nawaafil prayers to thank Allah. She said to her
son, "My son, my happiness is in your happiness".
After completing Daura Khaassa, he went on to participate in the prestigious
Daura Abdullah Bin 'Ateek. This particular leg of training is that programme
which has worried the Kaafirs and made them tremble with fear. Those people who
go around saying "Gao Maata" (Cow Mother) had been screaming and
complaining that the terrorists have a big group in the jungles and mountains
who take training, and soon this tribulation is going to come upon us.
With Allah's favours and help, that is exactly what happened, and even now,
these brave lion-hearted sons are attacking their sworn enemy and continue to
attack them again and again. These are great, brave sons, of which some are
fluttering beneath The Great Throne and some are waiting in their nests to
commence their hunt Insha'Allah. It was the 12th or 13th of October when sister
Umm Hammaad phoned and informed me of the day long conference in Toba Tek Singh,
on Friday. She told me to make my way there.
I arrived there with some other sisters. It was quite a cold day, as summer was
drawing to a close. Even before the Jumu'ah Prayer, the hall had filled with
women. From nearby villages and cities, groups of buses were arriving, and men
and women were participating with much excitement.
The government had provided a group of policewomen. Before Jumu'ah began, I
gathered various policewomen (whom had been specially requested to come from
Faisalabad) in one place and said to them that "You need not worry about
peace and order. We have our own security. We are peace and order loving
people." In truth I took the opportunity to give them some Da'wah of the
Deen. Quickly, I organised a meeting with sister Umm Hammaad. Not only did this
sister give them Da'wah but she also explained to them, the philosophy of Jihad.
Amongst them was the head constable, all the inspectors and many senior
officers. They were approximately a group of 20 women. Three or four of them,
including inspectors, acknowledged the fact that their uniforms did not comply
with Islam. They said, "Our government should provide us with such uniforms
which meet the requirements of Islam - have Hijaabs and Niqaabs.
It was at this conference that I first met Umm Abu Dajanah from Mamu Kaanjan.
She kept telling me "Amir Hafiz Sahib is here. Immediately write a few
words to him and request him to launch my son. I have prepared my son, Umar,
completely, so he is able to fight the Kuffar". She told me that she
herself had purchased a Kalashnikov for 1,800 rupees from her savings. "One
day I spoke to my son on the phone and asked him if he wanted anything. Umar
said it would be good if he could get a communication set." She said she
had sent Umar 9,000 rupees so he could buy himself a communication set. I was in
shock and awe, whilst listening to this great mother as she spoke, and I
wondered to myself that even now such mothers exist, who, decorating their
beloved sons by placing ammunition in their hands, send them into the
battlefield. Allahu Akbar!
When I arrived home, I spoke to my son, Hasaan, who only one day earlier had
returned from Muzaffarabad. He told me, "Mother, Umar has been
launched." And so, Umm Umar was informed on the phone that her beloved son
had been launched into the valley..
After that I forgot about this incident. On the morning of the 24th of March
2001, I had just finished praying Fajr, when the phone rang. When I answered it,
I found that Umar Abu Dajanah had become Shaheed. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illahi
Raji'un. (To Allah we belong and to Him we return)
The next day, I arrived in the village of Odanwala, where the Shaheed used to
live. Some other people were also travelling with me. For most of the journey I
kept imagining what the atmosphere must be like in the Shaheed's home. What
emotions his mother must be experiencing and how she would be feeling. As I
entered his home I was astounded. Beneath the marquee, surrounded by several
women with a muslin veil on, Umm Umar Abu Dajanah was lost in conversation. She
had a content and attractive smile on her face. When she greeted me, all I could
say was, "Sister, I have only come to say Salaam to this great mother's
greatness, who came after me and overtook me." I was still sitting next to
her, overwhelmedand in astonishment, when the Shaheed's elder brother, Ali, came
in to greet an elderly woman. After greeting the elderly lady, the boy went
away. His mother saw, and immediately, in a proud tone said, "My son, I see
tears in your eyes. I sincerely hope this is not the case." The son
replied, "No Mother, it is nothing like that." At that moment, the
mother turned her attention towards me and said "Make sure you come on the
day of the funeral. My next missile I have prepared in the shape of Ali.
Whenever the members of Lashkar-e-Taiba choose to call him, he is at their
service."
The events which occurred on the day of the funeral were very extraordinary and
unexpected. Umm Umar was addressing her sisters, sisters-in-law and various
other female relatives and was saying to them, "Today I will see what
wedding gift you give to my Umar. Today is my Umar's Walima. Open your hearts
and give generously. I will see how much you love my son. After listening to
this great mother, many of her female relatives started donating to the Jihad
fund. When the funds had been collected in the form of money, then Umm Umar
said, "My sisters. Those of you who are wearing four, six or eight gold
bangles. They should each give my son one of their bangles as a gift, so that as
well as giving a gift, your jewellery can be counted in odd numbers. Immediately
upon hearing this, many women, in order to make their jewellery odd in number,
took off one of their bangles and gave them to Umm Umar to put in the Jihad
fund. Rings and earrings were also collected. Umm Umar herself donated 100,000
rupees to the Jihad fund when her son was made Shaheed, and gave it to him as a
gift. What a unique gift!
In my life I have witnessed a countless number of weddings. I have attended the
functions. But such a glorious and great gift must not have been seen or heard
of by anyone. This gift was leading to that great route whose destination is
Jannah, Insha'Allah.
These qualities can only be obtained by that mother who teaches herself and her
children to live in accordance to the light of the Deen and teaches them the
true way of Islam, who strives to make them Mujahids, Fi Sabeelillah, and
instils in them the zeal to die for Islam.
After some days, I was given the opportunity to go to Odanwala with Umm Hammad
again. Umm Umar met us at with that same glory and honour. To tell you the truth,
I could see even more firmness and conviction on her face than before. After the
programme, when she was free, she said to Umm Hammad, "Sister, make du'a
that when we meet again, then I, like you, will also be the mother of two
Shaheed sons." Allah! Allah! What were my ears hearing! Memories of the
Sahaabiyeen were racing through my mind. Believe me when I say that all the
people in the area were waking up and coming to their senses. Those people who
used to vehemently oppose Jihad, were coming together. We have even heard that a
representative of the educated elite, who opposed Jihad, came to the grandfather
of the Shaheed, Maulana Abdul Qaadir Nadwi Sahib, the head of the Madrassa in
Mamu Kaanjan and asked for forgiveness. He said, "We were wrong. Surely,
Jihad has become extremely necessary in these times. If we have sincere
intentions and go forth purely for the sake of Allah and to attain His Pleasure,
not only do we receive Allah's help and victory by His blessing, but also, it
will not be long before those who are the opposition become our allies.
On the 20th April 2001, Amir Hafiz Muhamad Saeed prayed the Jumu'ah prayer in
Mamu Kaanjan. I also went to pray and there I met Umm Umar. I asked her if she
had written about any memories that she had of Umar, as I had mentioned to her
in our last meeting. She said, "I am so busy collecting wheat for the
Mujahideen. I didn't give much importance to the writing." Then she said,
"Insha'Allah, I will collect 100 tonnes of wheat for the Mujahideen."
And I was thinking to myself that, for the exaltation of the Muslim Ummah, the
muslim women must adopt such an excellent character as is seen in Umm Umar Abu
Dajanah.
